Member of Parliament
John Whittingdale OBE MP
John Whittingdale, a Conservative, has represented this area as MP since 1992.
Since that time he has gained a reputation as a good Constituency MP making himself available and working hard for his constituents.
Since 2005 John has become a familiar face on news bulletins as the respected Chairman of the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee
On 6 May 2010 he was returned to Parliament by a margin of 20,000 votes making Maldon one of the safer Conservative seats.
In recent history the seat has returned a Conservative MP although from 1942 to 1955 the seat was represented by the flamboyant Tom Driberg on behalf of Labour.
