Fishing
Sea Fishing
Fishermen are well catered
for in the Dengie Hundred with two Rivers and the North Sea
providing sea fishing and mainly disused sandpits offering
freshwater sport.
Fishing from the Sea
Wall
River Crouch
The Crouch has the advantage
of being narrow with access along the whole of the North Bank
allowing fishing from the bank to reach much of the river.
The most common catches are
Bass, eel, flounder, mullet, dab, whiting, codling depending on
the season while rays are the most sought after of common fish.
There are several deep holes
which provide the chance of more unusual fish and are popular
with anglers.
Another favourite site is
Holliwell Point where the River and Sea merge.
Down river North Fambridge
is another favourite location.
River Blackwater
The Blackwater as a much
wider river than the Crouch meaning that fishing from the banks
is much more limited especially as the river tends to be shallow
near to the banks with deeper water further than casting is
possible.
The favourite location on
the Blackwater is near to the Power Station at Bradwell. This
has the advantage of car parking at the power station and then a
footpath around the perimeter.
Other locations are
Stansgate, although there is very limited parking, and St
Lawrence.
North Sea
Not as popular as river
fishing as access can be difficult with long walks required.
The sandy beach accessed
from Deal Hall Farm, Burnham on Crouch is popular as is the area
accessed via the lane at Munkins farm, Bradwell on Sea.
Charter Boats
The best way to land big
fish is to use a charter boat which are available from Burnham
on Crouch, North Fambridge and Bradwell on Sea.
Bradwell on Seaboats held
the British record for Tope and Stingray.
The boats are operated by
experienced skippers who can take you to the best place offshore
to catch fish using their years of experience and their fish
finding radar.
Please check to make sure
that the boat that you use is safe for purpose,
